We all have experienced difficulty in falling asleep because we were worried about something; some of us have experienced waking up during the night because you cannot stop thinking about something important and many of us woke up earlier then we normally do when we anticipate an event. These are all normal occurrences that happen in every household however, when this pattern of disturbed sleep continues for more then a few days in a row you may be experiencing a common disorder known as insomnia.

The Causes Of Insomnia

In order to fully understand what is insomnia you need to get to the bottom of it and find out what causes it in the first place. The number one cause of insomnia is stress caused by a variety of things, some of which we don’t even realize they occurred. Stress can occur directly and indirectly to cause insomnia; direct stress is when you are directly involved and indirect stress is when you witness or get informed of someone else’s misfortune.

Direct stress is when you have financial problems, relationships issues, death of someone dear and or a medical condition. Indirect stress can come from watching the news, hearing about your neighbor’s illness or witnessing an accident on the street. All these situations can cause you disturbances in your sleep pattern and subsequently insomnia.

Different Types Of Insomnia

Learning what is insomnia will help you deal with your disorder better and not just treat it randomly with the first sleeping aid that comes along. There are three main types of insomnia and they are: transient insomnia, which is also the most common form and usually lasts anywhere from a couple of days to one week. Acute insomnia, which manifests over a period of a few weeks to a maximum six months and chronic insomnia, which is occurs every night for long periods of time.

Treating Insomnia

Learning what insomnia is will be your first step to help treat it but not without a doctor’s assistance. Many people who feel they know enough about what insomnia is start self-medicating with sleeping aids found in the drug store over the counter. Remember that all sleeping aids are habit forming and most of them also have side effects.

Speaking to a doctor about your insomnia will help you to understand better what is insomnia in your case, because we are all different and what may cause sleeplessness in some may not be identical to another and therefore each case must be treated separately.

For many people who have problems with sleeping at night, the question most commonly asked is, “What causes insomnia?” One of the biggest causes of insomnia is being over weight which can cause sleep apnea and will not allow the person to get enough sleep at night. The body is being starved for sleep even though the person has no idea that this is happening. The best cure for this type of insomnia is to lose all of the extra weight. This is easier said than done, but it is the best way.

The stressful life that people lead is also what causes insomnia. People start with getting up and drinking a pot of coffee before even leaving the house. Some people might not even eat breakfast. At work people don’t stop for breaks or even lunch. Instead, many people keep drinking coffee throughout the day. Add a stressful meeting and some things not going right and it is easy to see the stress people put on themselves. When the people go home they often cannot sleep and lie there hoping to sleep. This accumulates quickly until the body has no idea of what is coming next. The sleep just doesn’t come and that is what causes insomnia as well.

Another thing that causes insomnia is breaking the sleep habit on the weekends. People might stay up all night at a party and then sleep all day. Adding alcohol to the problem doesn’t help either. Sleeping all day might feel good on a Sunday but the problem is that it can cause the body to try to make up that sleep during the workday.

What Causes Insomnia In The First Place

Many times people will go to a doctor to get help with insomnia. The doctor may ask when the insomnia began. People don’t usually notice when insomnia begins because they are pushing themselves. It is hard to pinpoint the activity that caused the problem.

People need to go back to the point when they first asked, “What is causing insomnia?” Sometimes this will jog one’s memory as to the beginning of the problem. Most can only give a generalization of the time when sleeping became hard. This is normal because most people don’t keep records of things like that. Once the doctor has at least an idea of what caused insomnia, he can better prescribe the treatment or prescriptions that will be needed.

Ultram is a common prescription drug that is given to relieve pain. It is also a narcotic, and can cause serious side effects if not taken as prescribed. Insomnia and Ultram have a connection, even though Ultram is not a drug given to treat insomnia. The connection between the two is something that a person suffering from insomnia should understand.

Interactions Between Insomnia and Ultram

Insomniacs are often prescribed medications to reduce the symptoms. In many cases, the medications prescribed are antidepressants or sleeping pills. However, the effects of taking Ultram simultaneously with antidepressants or sleeping pills with can be very dangerous. It is vital to be sure that the doctor prescribing this combination is aware of the dangers, even if the medication being taken is an over the counter medication.

Also, some insomnia sufferers attempt to cure it with alcohol. Many insomnia patients acquire an alcohol dependency because they use the alcohol to treat their insomnia. As if there weren’t already enough problems with taking this route: people who drink excessive amounts of alcohol should also avoid Ultram. Like with many medications, alcohol and Ultram are a wicked combination.

Plus, since Ultram is a narcotic medication, it can be highly addictive. The patient can suffer serious withdrawal symptoms when they are taken off of the prescription. Due to this, necessary precautions must be taken, such as keeping the doctor informed of any dependancy feelings right away.

Some patients try to treat their addiction by stopping the medication abruptly. This causes the sufferer to experience horrible withdraw symptoms including heightened insomnia.

Instead of stopping Ultram completely, the patient should gradually reduce their daily dosage of Ultram according to their physician’s orders. This will slowly help their body to adjust to the lack of Ultram in their system, and fend off side effects like insomnia.

It is important to note that insomnia can be a side effect of Ultram even in a person without dependency.

Insomnia and Ultram are not a good mix any way you look at it. An insomnia sufferer should avoid Ultram if at all possible. Keep in mind that if you are prone to insomnia symptoms, you should tell your physician you would prefer a different pain relief medication than Ultram.

Insomnia is a treatable condition, but the process is much more difficult when Ultram is tossed into the mix so be careful, keep your doctor informed, and follow their advice.

Insomnia has been associated with a natural hormone produced by the body. This hormone is known as melatonin, and it makes the body feel physically tired and ‘encourages’ the sleep cycle. It is produced by the pineal gland in the brain. This insomnia hormone is also made synthetically and is used as an effective treatment for insomnia.

Melatonin: The Elite insomnia hormone

Melatonin works in a series of ways to reduce the effects of insomnia. It has been shown to decrease body temperature, suppress stimulating hormones produced by the body, and help with relaxation. This soothing affect is the major attraction to the hormone.

The body responds to darkness or nighttime by producing melatonin so we get tired and go to sleep. However, there is another cycle at work here: the body needs sleep to keep it functioning properly.

The Major Issue With Insomnia

When the body is producing an insufficient amount of melatonin and suffering from insomnia as a result, the body is at risk for much more serious problems. Sleep is needed to rejuvenate the body and mind. Without enough sleep, it is extremely tough to stay alert and focused throughout the day. Lack of sleep also slows reaction time, which is a typical justification for car and machinery accidents.

When a person is suffering from insomnia, their body’s immune system is also weakened. High-quality sleep is vital in building a strong immune system. This causes many insomniacs to be sick more often than most, too.

How Melatonin Helps Fight Insomnia

As we age, our bodies produce less and less Melatonin. That is the main reason insomnia is common in adults than in children. This steady reduction of melatonin can be supplemented by a person taking the insomnia hormone in pill form. By increasing the body’s levels of melatonin, a person can easily overcome the insomnia because the body is responding naturally again to the cues form the hormone to induce sleep.

Melatonin is not a cure-all for insomnia, though. In some insomnia patients, Melatonin is not the cause of their sleeplessness. If there is another under lying problem then melatonin supplements might not help at all.

The insomnia hormone Melatonin is very important to a person’s sleep cycles. A person with low melatonin production will not only have problems sleeping, but can also get sick more often, can have more accidents, and usually has problems functioning throughout the day. That is why it is very important to keep melatonin levels in the body at a steady level. The medical community has worked very hard to create herbal synthetic Melatonin insomnia hormone supplements for these reasons, and Melatonin very well could be the answer you’ve been looking for!

Wondering where to get a Melatonin supplement that’s completely safe? Check out the top doctor-recommended herbal insomnia remedy here!

Insomnia is a physical condition in which the sufferer has difficulty getting to sleep and/or staying asleep. Insomnia is not a disease, but a symptom of a condition that is brought about by a variety of factors. Some of these factors include psychological issues, stress, changes within an individual’s environment or the person’s diet.

An additional factor that can lead to insomnia is through the use of prescription medications. One such medication that can cause insomnia is diuretics. The link between diuretics and insomnia can be established by understanding how a diuretic works, what the purpose of a diuretic is, and its effects upon the individual which can lead to insomnia.

So What Exactly Is A Diuretic?

Before understanding the connection between diuretics and insomnia, it is important to know what a diuretic is. A diuretic is any substance or medication that increases the urinary output of an individual.

A diuretic can be part of a prescription plan ordered by a physician or can also be part of an individual’s daily dietary intake. Sometimes an individual consumes an item and doesn’t realize the diuretic effect that it can have on their body. Two such items are coffee and alcohol.

The Purpose of a Diuretic

As part of a prescription program, the diuretic is prescribed to minimize the building up of excess fluids within the patient. One such medical condition that utilizes a diuretic, as part of a prescription program, is the treatment of congestive heart failure.

As part of the aging process, the heart begins to weaken. As the heart weakens, there is a corresponding buildup of fluid within the body. Through a diuretic the kidneys are stimulated to increase the output of urine which in turn decreases the fluid buildup within the body. This is one example of many that diuretics can be used to prevent or even treat medial issues.

The Connection Between diuretics and insomnia

In either case, whether an individual is on a diuretic prescription program or utilizes substances that can be classified as diuretics, the connection between diuretics and insomnia is essentially the same. Typically, the frequency of urination during common sleeping hours can disrupt an individual’s sleep, which may then lead to insomnia. Many people develop insomnia from working the night shift, because their circadian rhythm, the “internal clock” as it is more commonly known, has to constantly adjust, making it difficult for the body to rest.

In addition, a common side effect of diuretics is the experiencing of thirst. Thirst can be another contributor to sleeplessness which also indicates a direct link between diuretics and insomnia. By consulting a physician and taking the proper amount of diuretics, these problems can be minimized. Also, there are many methods, including soothing sounds to keep the body relaxed and peaceful throughout the night, countering the effects of the diuretics.

For the best audio insomnia treatment in the World, check out Sleep Tracks!

By learning the basic facts about insomnia, you will be able to better determine what you need to do to get your energy back. First of all, it is important to note that insomnia is not a disease, but simply a “symptom” of other physical, mental or emotional issue or experience.

Some of the factors that can cause insomnia are rapid changes in environment, poor diet, physical or mental distress, psychological issues or other medical conditions such as restless leg syndrome.

The most important facts to know about insomnia are its definition, types, causes and treatments.

“What is insomnia?”

Insomnia is defined as a condition in which the individual affected has trouble with sleep patterns. This definition is broad because the condition itself is broad. Some people have trouble getting to sleep, but once they do they’re out for 8 hours. Others wake up every hour throughout the night. Other more serious cases involve literally not sleeping at all for days or weeks at a time.

Either way, it’s a fact that insomnia is very unpleasant, causing the sufferer to deal with a lack of energy day in and day out.

“What are the types of insomnia?”

It is now known fact that there are two types of insomnia: secondary insomnia and primary insomnia.

Secondary insomnia is the most common type of sleeplessness, involving a disruption in sleep patterns as mentioned above. Primary insomnia occurs when the sufferer has no change in sleep patterns, but has extreme trouble getting rest all the time. This can be caused by specific medical conditions, prescriptions or serious emotionally traumatic events.

“Ok, I’m ready for the good news. How can I treat my insomnia?”

The simplest and most common way to treat insomnia is to remove the source of sleep pattern disruption. If there is something stressing you out at work, solve it or accept it. If a relationship isn’t working, get professional guidance. If you drink too much alcohol, gradually reduce the amount consumed to a healthy dosage with the help of your doctor.

In the case of primary insomnia, a strict dietary, physical and emotional regimen may need to be followed. Here are some quick tips that work for most people:

- Decrease the amount of caffeine and alcohol consumed
- Eat more fiber and protein
- Chew food completely before swallowing
- Exercise regularly
- Drink water every hour throughout the day
- Stretch your muscle in the morning and before bed
- Clear your mind and do not think about work or stressful things at least 1 hour before bed
- Get soothing music to listen to while sleeping

If this is unsuccessful, the use of prescription medication may be necessary. Such treatment could include the use of sleep inducing drugs such as those found in the benzodiazepine family. These medicines are typically Xanax, Valium, and Serax.

Stop suffering from lack of sleep! It has been said that 3 out of every 5 adults suffer from some level of insomnia at some point. As you know, without proper sleep (or any sleep for that matter), you feel irritable, tired, slow and maybe even useless. Even if your insomnia only haunts you 1-2 times per week, known as transient insomnia, it is a problem that needs to be dealt with. The good news: it is MUCH easier than you think…

Each person has his/her own causes of insomnia, but most get it from stress, pain, short-term anxiety and varying levels of depression. Another common cause can be a commonly brushed-aside annoyance known as “jet lag” for frequent travelers. Jet lag is simply traveling through time zone changes, and forcing your body’s internal (circadian) clock to be thrown off by sleeping at times you’re not tired and working during “normal” sleeping hours.

Another type of insomnia is known as acute. It typically lasts for 3 to 6 months, and is much more serious than transient. Many cases of acute insomnia are traced back to overactive minds or extremely stressed individuals. Whether you suffer randomly, or for weeks at a time, insomnia is treatable, and can be effectively reduced or eliminated, allowing you to get the peaceful rest you need to live your life again.

Severe lack of sleep is not limited to one gender in particular. It has been estimated that about 60 percent of Americans suffer from transient insomnia, up from 40 percent of women and 30 percent of men having trouble sleeping. A common misconception is that as a person ages, they require less sleep and become more and more disregarded by sleep disorder specialists. Across the board, Americans get about 6-7 hours of sleep per night on average, but doctors recommend at least 8, even for adults!

Many people confuse poor quality sleep with insomnia. A common form of this is sleep apnea, which causes people to have breathing troubles while they sleep. Most people suffering from sleep apnea wake up multiple times throughout the night and do not even realize they are awake. These constant shifts in and out of sleep wear the body down, and they begin to wonder why they’re so tired all the time. There are sleep specialists who can provide answers to your sleeping disorder and help you sleep soundly throughout the night.

Though it is rare, a hereditary illness known as fatal familial insomnia will cause a person to be completely unable to sleep, resulting in death within 2 years of onset. While there are many cure options for more common, less sever, cases of insomnia mentioned above, there is no cure for this extreme level.

Hopefully this has helped you to decide why you’re feeling tired all the time, what type of insomnia you have, and…Oh wait! You need to know what to do about it, right? Well, there are experts who have taken the time to create wonderful resources to help you get your sleep back, and some have even put their services online for your convenience.
