Sleep disorders among teenagers affects between seven to ten percent of teenagers which are called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, also known as DNS. By the time they reach young adulthood, many of these teenagers overgrow this disorder . Lower than one percent of adults are considered to have DSP. Often sleep disorder has been mistaken for insomnia by many people.

A great deal of people with delayed sleep phase disorder are named to as night owls. This is because if allowed to be on their own, they would stay up till really late, some of the times until 4 or 5 a.m. They like to get up really late in the morning or early afternoon.

The natural delay in the circadian sleep / wake rhythm of many teenagers’ age of development may be the reason they like to stay up late and sleep late in the morning. Sometimes this is because they would like to socialize at that time of the day.

Sleep disorders among teenagers most of the time make the teenagers real tired on the day and they may even fall asleep in the classroom. The definite cause of this sleep disorder is not known but It is known for certain that it is a circadian rhythm problem. The sleep disorders symptoms that you may notice are when teenagers frequently have a really hard time getting up in the morning for school. Though, they go to sleep at a regular time, such as 11 p.m., they still toss and turn for hours like an individual with insomnia. The difference is, unlike an insomniac, people with delayed sleep phase disorder have no difficulty staying asleep but they do have a very difficult time getting up early in the morning.

Sleep disorder treatments consist of bright light, chronotherapy, melatonin and over- the-counter prescribed sleeping pills. However, sleep disorder treatments are also available for people that ask to latch on a more traditional sleep / wake schedule.

One form of sleep disorder treatments are the bright light treatment for delayed sleep phase disorder uses bright light to trick the brain’s circadian clock . Exposure to bright light shifts the circadian rhythm if it is administered within a few hours of the body’s lowest temperature at night.

Sleep disorders among teenagers can be rather severe where in some cases, teenagers enduring delayed sleep phase disorder would need a week away from school called for to accomplished this therapy, chronotherapy which has been used as sleep disorder treatments for someone with delayed sleep phase disorder. It takes one week long of a block of time . In turn, daily bedtime is delayed by three hours. For instance, for someone that falls asleep at 2 a.m. but prefer to fall asleep at 11. p.m., their bedtime would move to 5 a.m. in the beginning. The succeeding day it would move to 8 a.m. and keep on with this cycle for a week. When the craved bed time is attained it is very crucial to maintain a uniform wake up time.

There are several sleep disorder treatments involving various drugs that are used to treat delayed sleep phase disorder. Melatonin has been successful in changing the sleep cycle of people with this sleep disorder. Prescription medication such as Ramelteon, and other sleeping pills, have been successful in treating teenagers and adults with delayed sleep phase disorder.

Parents and teachers ought to be informed of sleep disorders among teenagers so that they are more observant with the sleep disorders symptoms so that sleep disorder treatments may be looked for. Furthermore, if your teenager has problem nodding off and forever would like to stay up late, be mindful of the theory that a sleep disorder may be present.

It has never ceased to amaze me throughout my career that when the subject of snoring comes up in a crowd, everybody is rapt. It would appear that almost everybody has a profound interest in snoring because they are either directly affected by it or certainly know someone who is. Snoring is the bane of the bedroom for millions and millions of people making it very desirable to find a snoring cure.

Why is finding a snoring cure so important?

A recent scientific article reported at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine reported that the bed-mate to a snorer suffers poor quality sleep. This may sound obvious. However, bed-mates to snorers constantly attempt to “beat the system”. They will tell you that they go to bed earlier than their partner so that they can fall asleep before the snoring begins. This may happen but when the snorer arrives in bed, falls asleep and starts snoring, it partially arouses the bed mate as well as the snorer him/herself.

As it turns out, each stage of sleep plays a specific role in generating hormones that rejuvenate our bodies. Now for the urgency of finding a snoring cure. Snoring disrupts the brain’s ability to cycle through all of the stages of sleep. It not only continuously arouses the snorer, but also anybody who is sleeping with or within earshot of the snorer. Poor sleep results in daytime fatigue, irritability, memory loss, and a host of other conditions that demand a snoring cure.

Attempts at a snoring cure.

Dozens and dozens of strategies have been implemented in order to affect a snoring cure. Mechanical schemes such as nose clips, chin straps, tennis balls in the back of a pajama top have been endlessly recommended, yet failed. Surgeries designed to reduce the mass of the soft tissues that collapse into the airway (UPPP, LAUP, Pillar, Somnoplasty) have also been shown not to be effective long- term.

CPAP therapy where patients wear a mask attached to a blower is considered the gold standard as a snoring cure and treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. While CPAPs work well, they are bulky, uncomfortable and cosmetically imposing so patient compliance percentage is relatively low (approximately 40%).

A very viable approach to a snoring cure!

For select patients who suffer exclusively from snoring alone (not obstructive sleep apnea) the Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece appears to be a simple, inexpensive and efficacious snoring cure. It is a device that looks like a sports mouthguard but it positions the lower jaw in a forward position thus opening up the airway so as to prevent snoring. This, by definition, becomes a snoring cure.

What is snoring?

Snoring is producing unpleasant sounds in a high or soft tone while sleeping. The root cause of snoring is vibration of tissues in the respiratory system, which causes obstruction in the air movement while sleeping. During sleeping the muscles, which are at the back of the throat, relax, and block the air passage with the structures of the soft palate.

Who snores more, women or men?

Both men and women snore, even though men snore more. In fact some women snore just as loudly as men do. Women snore more loudly with the increasing of age. And in comparison with women men sleep much more soundly. Research indicates that the habitual snorer faces problems of obstruction in the airways during the night that can contribute to a number of health problems including high blood pressure.

According to the Swedish snoring increases problems in pregnancy, including the risk of high blood pressure and smaller birth weight. Moms with a serious problem with snoring have the highest incidence of preeclampsia, high blood pressure, abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues, and weight gain.

Snoring in women also causes disruptions in breathing. When it is serious it can cause sleep apnea which is related to the stopping of the breath. Smoking also affects snoring habits, and cause ill-effects in pregnant women. Women who snore habitually gain more weight during pregnancy in comparison with the non-snoring pregnant women. The snoring pregnant women gain more retention in the fluid.

The mothers who are habitual snorers have babies that are are considered small for the gestational age at birth. During sleeping the consequences of increased upper airway resistance leads to affects on the fetus. This also supports the relationship between intrauterine growth retardation and sleep apnea.

According to Swedish research, pregnant women have a higher risk factor for high blood pressure and delivering smaller babies when they are habitual snorers. The incidence of high blood pressure, preeclampsia, abnormal fluid retention, and weight gain is more common for women that snore. Particularly associated with pregnancy is high blood pressure and preeclampsia. This condition involves an increase in the amount of the proteins in the blood and urine snorers. Around the world many great scientists have showed the link between increasing snoring rate and these problems in pregnancy. Further studies have revealed the connection between snoring of the mother and high blood pressure. Snoring in women also causes disruptions in breathing. It causes sleep apnea, which is related to interruption in breathing. Smoking habits also affect the snoring, and cause problems during pregnancy. Women who have frequent snoring gain more weight during pregnancy compared with the non-snoring pregnant women.

According to research, the habitual snorer faces problems of obstruction in the airways during the night times contributes to the increase of high blood pressure and preeclampsia in pregnancy.

Making of unintentionally unpleasing noises while sleeping at night is known as snoring. This noise is made when excess tissues in the nose, mouth and throat obstruct the airway and vibrate. Snoring is caused by many factors and is often not just a minor nuisance, it can be a major health risk. Obesity, sleep position and increasing age may also cause snoring as the muscles in the throat get loose. Depending on what the cause of the snoring is, there are many things that can be done about it.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure

1. Surgery, including Sinus surgery

If the problem is serious and structural, there may need to be surgery. In sinus surgery, the air chambers present on either side of nose and between eyes, called sinuses, are removed. There are our pairs of these chambers called frontal, maxillary, sphenoid and ethnocide. Any blockage of the drainage system of the sinuses such as that with allergies or colds can causes infection. The procedure is not painful. The patient is anesthetized and the nose is examined with an operating telescope. Micro instruments are used in the whole surgery to remove and any areas of the blockage. Serious complications will rarely occur in this surgery. Bleeding is the most serious potential consequence.

2. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure

Sinus surgery

Sinuses are the air chambers present on both sides of nose and between your eyes. Mucus which helps to keep your throat and nose moist and healthy gets infected if the drainage channels of the sinuses get blocked from a cold or allergies. It can be treated by antibiotics and with nose drops. If these measures fail to cure the problem, an operation may be required.

This is not generally a painful operation. The person is given an anesthesia and the nose is examined using an operating telescope. Using micro instruments, the areas of blockage and the polyps are removed. Possible complications are bruising around the eye, infection, CSF leak and bleeding.

A jaw positioning device designed by a dentist pulls your tongue further away from sliding backwards to the back of the throat. It is like a splint worn at night to hold your lower jaw forward and keep tissues from blocking your airway. Jaw positioning devices vary in price. There are various types of splints available. For some people the splint is not that comfortable, and in those cases a custom fitted is usually recommended. The splint is used by the people to loose their weight.

Losing weight

Losing weight Overweight people have excess fat in their neck, causing their airway to narrow and leading to vibration of the soft tissue or snoring. Loosing weight will help to reduce those fatty tissue of the neck.

What exactly is snoring?

by ray

What exactly is snoring?

Snoring is the unpleasant sound caused by the vibration of the parts of the nose, mouth or throat structures that obstruct breathing during sleep. The noise this causes may be soft or loud, and the blockage may be slight or severe. Among the other factors are while sleeping the throat closes due to weakness.

Millions of people worldwide have problems with snoring. The problem gets worse with increasing age. Physiological characteristics of our body and changes in our lifestyle make us likely to have snoring problems, affecting men and women but being more common in men and in the people who are overweight.

Self-cures for snoring

Minor cases of snoring, not including the more serious sleep apnea, may respond well to home remedies. Finding a cure for your snoring problem can result in a superior quality of life for you and for your loved ones. Some of the following suggestions may help:

Stop smoking and lose weight

Several bad health habits can make snoring more likely. Losing weight will help to prevent snoring by reducing the fatty tissue in your airway. Your ability to breathe freely when you sleep can be improved considerably by eating less and improving your fitness level. Stopping smoking will help you to prevent from snoring. Reducing exposure to smoke can also help you with the noise and intensity of your snoring.

Improve your sleep posture.

Modify sleep position

In addition to health, sleep position will make a difference. Sleeping on your back will more likely worsen your snoring problem. The soft tissues at the back of your throat and tongue are more likely in this position to glide backwards to block your airway. Changing your sleeping position to your side will help mild snorer to cure snoring on the whole.

Breaking the habit of sleeping on your back might be tough initially. However, some people have luck when they try the “tennis ball trick”. In this trick one has to sleep with a tennis ball or any other ball of a similar size attached to the back of your pajamas. You can stitch a pocket at the back of your pajama top and then put the tennis ball in it. Sleeping on your back will be difficult when you do this and you will respond by turning on your side. Soon you will build up the habit of side-sleeping and will no more need the tennis ball.

Elevating your head can help with snoring. If you sleep with pillows can cause blockage in your airways due to bending of neck. Thus to prevent snoring you should avoid sleeping with pillows and elevate your head another way. Specially designed pillows can be used by snorers which are available online or at any specialty stores. You can also lift your bed to a higher position which will help you to stop snoring. Elevating your bed by four inches will help you to make your breathing easy and encourage your tongue and jaw to move forward. Using a pillow while sleeping can cause a fold in the neck which helps in contributing to snoring. Thus elevating the whole head of the bed can be more helpful to stop snoring.
Some people find it cute when children snore while sleeping. But snoring of a child is not a good sign and can be a serious matter of concern. It can be a health problem, or a sign or cause of other health problems. Snoring is the vibration of the respiratory structures (including throat and nasal tissues) and the resulting sound. Uvula and soft palate are usually the structures. The vibrations are caused by obstruction of the air movement during breathing while sleeping. The sound, which may be loud or soft, is often unpleasant.

Children might snore for several different reasons. Perhaps they have nasal congestion. It could be due to allergies, which occur seasonally, or colds. Snoring in children is most often caused by enlarged tonsils and adenoids. The adenoid gland also causes restriction in the nasal cavity. They easily catch bacteria which results in swelling and the snoring occurs if the swelling is untreated. Another possible reason for the child’s snoring is excess weight, i.e. Obesity, which also results in the narrowing of the passages.

Child snoring can cause behavior issues, also. Children with sleep disturbances may suffer from attention problems as compared to other children. Children that snore develop problems in school. Child snoring is caused or worsened by such conditions as enlargement of the tonsils, nasal speech, overweight high blood pressure.

There are many distinct causes of snoring in children. Seasonal allergies and colds are a major cause. Parents should get their children treatment for allergies so that they do not cause snoring, sleep or behavior problems. Snoring in children can also be caused by enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which are in the nasal passages. These can catch various bacteria, resulting in further swelling and snoring occurs if not treated in a timely fashion. Obesity also causes childhood snoring, as it causes narrowed breathing passages.

Hyperactivity is a particular concern in children that Snore. Hyperactivity and attention problems often worsen each other and further deteriorate sleep as they cause behavior, anxiety and sleep hygiene issues. If a child who snores looks or sounds cute, like they are sawing logs so to speak, it actually doesn’t indicate they are sleeping soundly or well. The situation definitely won’t continue to be innocent and benign as it worsens with age.

Snoring, causes: Snoring is caused by when loose nasal tissues in the back of the throat vibrate and cause an unpleasant noise. The snorers often have excess nasal and throat tissue or even floppy tissue prone to vibrations. The position of the tongue can also cause an obstruction while breathing. Obesity can cause this problem, also causing extra fat in the throat and neck. Snoring in children might not be diagnosed because Some of think it’s cute. But this is not a good sign and can be a sign of a serious health issue. Children also suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This causes obstruction of the air the child breaths, making the child feel uncomfortable.

Another common reason for snoring in children is nasal congestion. This can be due to colds or allergies which occur due to the change in the seasons. Parents must ensure that the allergies of their children are taken care of appropriately. Another possible reason for the child’s snoring is excess weight, i.e. Obesity, which also results in the narrowing of the passages.

There are many potential health concerns with snoring. One of them is sleep apnea, a serious form of snoring. Sleep Apnea causes complete obstruction of the air the child breathes. The child feels uncomfortable due to interrupted sleep this causes. In addition to health problems, snoring in children puts them at risk for hyperactivity, a disease which can coexist with the snoring. Child snoring has also been related to other problems with behavior. Children suffering from apnea are said to have a shorter attention span compared to average children. In fact because of sleep interruption, most of the children suffering from snoring have faced attention problems in school. Some of the other major symptoms of child snoring include enlargement of the tonsils, nasalized speech, obesity and raised blood pressure.

Hyperactivity is a particular concern in children that Snore. Hyperactivity and attention problems often worsen each other and further deteriorate sleep as they cause behavior, anxiety and sleep hygiene issues.
Snoring problems can become more serious medical issues if left unchecked and should therefore be cared for before that can happen. Although many people consider snoring nothing more than a rather funny nuisance, it is actually your body gasping for air because of having trouble breathing.

Snoring is caused by restricted airways. The sound is actually the sound of your throat and soft palate rubbing each other as you try to inhale.

Here are some simple steps you can take to stop your snoring problem:

Keep in Shape

Overweight individuals that have snoring problems usually have them because their necks and throats contain deposits of fat that affect breathing by making airways less open.

Allergies

Nasal congestion caused by allergies is another source of snoring. Treating allergies with a nasal decongestant in place of an antihistamine will keep your breathing from being limited and making you snore.

Antihistamines are depressants that relax the throat muscles, so while they may help with your allergies they can actually lead to snoring as well. You are better to use a decongestant at night, to clear your breathing without contributing further to your snoring.

Sleeping On Your Side

It’s common for people to only snore when they sleep on their backs - often sleeping on their sides solves the problem.

If your body naturally rolls on your back when you sleep, you can stop this by putting a tennis ball in a sock and pinning it to the back of your pajamas. The discomfort will make you roll on your side automatically if you roll onto your back in the night.

There are other options available such as specialized pillows, nasal strips and throat sprays. Their effectiveness will depend a lot on the underlying cause of your snoring.

Seeking the advice of a medical professional is the best thing to do before trying to decide which snoring treatment is best in your situation.

There are a few types of sleep apnea, off all of these central sleep apnea is one of the least common types which do not have the most numbers of sufferers. This type of sleep apnea is actually occurs due to the problems in receiving and transmitting brain signals which result in recurrent stopped of breathing while you are sleeping.

Furthermore, you may also become affected by obstructive sleep apnea which is more common form of sleep apnea than central sleep apnea, it occurs as the name implies, due to blocked or obstructed airways.

Available Treatment For Central Sleep Apnea

Ambien Is Used

Handling obstructive sleep apnea may be easier than central sleep apnea because there are many different types of treatment methods for it, but it is not the same case for central sleep apnea. However, good news is central sleep apnea sufferers may have the choice to use Ambien, a sleep drug as the treatment because there are new advancements in its uses. Therefore you may benefit from it.

In addition, according to facts gathered as a result of studies made on patients who have been using Ambien, its effectiveness has been proven to be quite promising. Furthermore, the drug is believed to have helped in improving sleep apnea problems from an average of thirty to thirteen per patient. When considering its effectiveness for treating central sleep apnea, this should be taken into account.

On the contrary, proper study should be carried out on the long term effects of Ambien as a drug which is used in the treatment of central sleep apnea. Be apprised that Ambien is still needed to be fully tested for its use. Therefore before you take the decision on using it for your problem, you should only use it if it has been specifically recommended by your doctor as the form of treatment.

There will be an advantage to know the difference between them and even better if you are aware whether or not you have a central sleep apnea which is recognized as mixed sleep apnea that is basically a combination of both types of sleep apnea types.

Also, even though the symptoms for both of the sleep apnea types can sometimes be alike, the causes for each kind are more than likely going to be varied in each case. As mentioned, it is a very rare type of sleep apnea and it is quite dissimilar with the more common obstructive sleep apnea, and if you have the former, you will surely go through difficulties in brain timing, which when it does not fire the way that it should. This will therefore result in insufficient oxygen while you are sleeping.

Just like with other cases of sleep apnea, it is also no different if you are suffering from it to wake up constantly during the night when you gasp or choke for breath, and such incidents can occur as many as hundred times in a night and you are robbed from the valuable sleep and rest needed.

Therefore whether you are suspecting of having central sleep apnea or obstructive sleep apnea, you need to consult your doctor and get a prescribed treatment program as early as possible so that you will get better treatments.

Therefore even with central sleep apnea, you still can get treated, provided you seek advice from your doctor, and not being the doctor yourself.

When someone snores loudly, and who stops breathing for 10-20 seconds during sleep, then resumes breathing with a gasp, choke, or loud snort, he or she may be suffering from Sleep Apnea. It is a medical condition characterized by interrupted breathing patterns during sleep.

The frequency can be from five to thirty times an hour, and this can be life threatening because of the decreasing amount of oxygen in the blood.

Sleep apnea affects one in about every 25 adults, but 90% of all sleep apnea cases aren’t reported.

Most sufferers do not wake up during these episodes of non-breathing, and are not aware of the medical condition, hence it is not being reported.

Often, it is the sufferer’s bed partner or roommate who initially notices the signs.

Obesity is known to cause sleep apnea due to the additional fat around the neck that pushes against the airways. What is unknown is that sleep apnea in turn causes obesity. This happens because when the amount of oxygen in the blood decreases, it causes the body to store more fat to replace the decreased energy reserves.

It’s a vicious cycle that doesn’t end until remedied.

If you have these symptoms - overweight, with dry/sore throat, headaches in the morning, and feeling of tiredness during the day, then you may be suffering from sleep apnea.

Most doctors claim that even a 10% reduction in weight will prevent sleep apnea and help you sleep better. Losing weight may be a helpful advice, but it is easier said than done.

With my Snoring Program, you don’t need to do that.

My Snoring Program does not involve rigorous exercise and weight loss, as attested by hundreds of my clients who have used my program. They have maintained that it has cured their sleep apnea and made them sleep better at night.

By religiously doing the steps in my Snoring Program, you will condition your body to avoid going into “panic mode” during sleep, and the increased energy that you will get from sleep will in turn make it easy for you to maintain a healthy body weight. Two birds with one stone.

But hitting three birds with one stone is even better, right?

My new Weight Loss Program will also help sleep apnea sufferers deal with its causes - as well as a list of other problems caused by the extra weight.

My Weight Loss Program involves exercises that are not even workout exercises. No one has probably ever heard of these exercises before.

Check out my Snoring Program and Weight Loss Program for a better sleep and a better life.
