High-quality, uninterrupted sleep is an integral factor in how you feel as you go about your day. Even so, many (if not most) Americans are not getting the rest they need on a nightly basis. Those who suffer from insufficient or poor-quality sleep frequently find themselves looking to drugstore shelves for a solution.

Stemulite is one of the latest dietary supplements available that can help the body relax and enter a deep state of sleep with ease. If you’re having trouble hitting the pillow each night, natural dietary supplements such as Stemulite can promote a good night’s rest.

The Effects of Sleep on the Body

Ensuring a good night’s rest is good for both your body and mind; sleep is a restorative process, and helps with muscle and tissue repair overnight. Stress from the day is eliminated as the body repairs itself and creates healthy cells and muscle fibers to accommodate for any trauma or changes.

The right sleep schedule will help to:

Improve skintone and leave you with a fresh, youthful complexion

Increase energy levels throughout the day

Boost your metabolism and curb your cravings

Make it easier to lose weight

Give you the energy and adaptability you need to handle stress

Improve mental and athletic performance

Boost your mood

If you are finding yourself unable to achieve the deep, restful sleep you need in order to wake up feeling refreshed, there are several factors that could be causing this, from the firmness of your mattress to what you ate before going to bed. Sometimes, though, there are no obvious solutions. If you’ve tried everything, it may be time to try an all-natural sleep aid such as Stemulite, which is designed to make deep, rejuvenating sleep easier to achieve.

Helpful Hints for Better Sleep

Studies show that melatonin, a naturally-occurring hormone that helps the body repair itself and encourages REM sleep, can help restore the cells overnight and . If your body is not producing enough melatonin on a regular basis, the result is often poor quality sleep and symptoms of insomnia - lethargy, foggy thinking, chronic fatigue, poor memory and reduced athletic performance. A few ways to improve the quality of the sleep cycle and increase melatonin production include:

Clearing clutter from your bedroom to encourage relaxation

Sleeping in a quiet room, without too much light

Cutting down on the consumption of caffeine

Using a full-body pillow to encourage good sleep posture

Making sure you are not taking medication that may disrupt sleep

Using Stemulite or other natural supplements to increase melatonin production and facilitate relaxation

Though there are many sleeps aids available over-the-counter, it is prudent to be cautious and aware of any side effects that may occur. One should also avoid becoming dependent on poor-quality supplements, as this can end up negatively affecting sleep. With that said, though, there is no question that all-natural supplements such as Stemulite can offer invaluable assistance in solving sleep issues, so that you can wake up feeling rested and tackle the day’s activities with renewed energy and vigor.

We all need to get a good night’s sleep in order to function properly, and sleep is necessary for our general wellbeing. It stops us from feeling tired during the daytime, is vital for our mental health and plays its part in combating disease. On occasions when we are deprived of the right amount of sleep, everything about our normal daily routine changes.

In an effort to get some much needed sleep insomniacs often turn to sleeping pills. However, is this really the best solution to the problem? Here are a few advantages and drawbacks of taking sleeping pills.

Advantages

* Two of the main reasons for people being apprehensive about taking sleeping pills in the past were the possibility of overdose and the worry of a habit being formed. However, the sleeping pills of today are considerably less habit forming and the chances of a lethal overdose are much reduced.

* Each individual patient has different needs and there are many types of sleeping pills to choose from which will address such needs. Some pills simply help you to fall to sleep, some ensure you sleep soundly through the night and some will do both of these things for you. With all this choice you are sure to find a sleeping pill which works just right for you without experiencing any unwanted side effects.

* A common complaint of sleeping pill takers of the past is that the medication causes drowsiness during the following day. Not so with the newer sleeping pills on the market today.

Drawbacks

* Even though less risky than sleeping pills of the past, there are still some serious dangers associated with today’s sleeping pills. These risks vary depending on the drug being taken, but blurry vision, dizziness and interaction with other medications and alcohol may be experienced.

* In the past sleeping pills have been said to be the cause of drivers falling asleep at the wheel of the car and this is clearly a danger to both the person taking the drug and to others.

* More often than not sleeping pills induce a deep sleep, which may mean the person taking the medication does not wake up in the case of an emergency such as a house fire.

* As a long term solution, taking sleeping pills is not very often effective. They may well be great for occasional bouts of insomnia but they do not get to, nor treat, the root of the problem. Even though they are not habit forming by nature, it may be necessary to continue taking them to see an improvement in sleep patterns.

In conclusion, sleeping pills do help us to sleep better but should only be used as a last resort. There are many alternatives which do not cost any money at all and are definitely worth trying first. If they do actually work for you not only will they save you money but they will eliminate any risks too.

Do you have trouble dropping off to sleep? Is your mind going over the occurrences of the day? Are you panicking that you don’t have enough time to do all you have to do tomorrow? Are you faced with a deadline to get a job done? Are any or all of these things keeping you from getting good nights sleep?

If so, there are numerous natural sleep remedies which can help you so let’s take a look at them in detail.

A cup of chamomile tea, which is made from an herb effective in treating insomnia, enjoyed before bed time will soothe and calm you. The well known combination of milk and honey, although old, is a great way of activating the sleep process, as does drinking a glass of lukewarm milk.

The central nervous system can be depressed by the herb lavender in a similar way to antidepressants and a cup of mint tea can put you to sleep quicker than you can blink.

Lemon balm tea works as a fast stimulant to get you relaxed and induce a calm sleep. Don’t let the word stimulant worry you. There are many stimulants which work in the opposite way to those that fill you with energy.

Although herbs have a great value as aids to sleep there are other things you can do to ensure restful and unbroken sleep. Try not to nap during the daytime, cut out the caffeine before going to bed and avoid alcohol and medications which are known to disrupt your sleep patterns.

The fault could possibly lie with the mattress you are using. Is it old and past its best? If this is the case then treat yourself to a new one or even buy a topper for your existing mattress from anywhere selling bedding and blankets.

Doing a spot of yoga prior to going to bed can be of great value. All you have to do is sit quietly and calmly for fifteen minutes, allowing your body to relax completely before you retire. Gentle background music or sounds of nature may be just what you need to prepare you for sleep so give this a try too.

Get rid of any anxiety you are feeling by letting go of the stresses of the day. Think peaceful thoughts about a time and place where you were at your happiest.

Press the off button on the TV remote or try reading a book you have unsuccessfully attempted to get into before. If it is so boring, you are sure to begin to feel sleepy. Lay back in the darkness and relax. Forget about tomorrow. You can think about what awaits when you wake in the morning after a great night’s sleep.

There are all sorts of things which cause you to be awake through the night. For example, there are many physical factors such as the time you get up in the morning and the time you go to sleep at night along with what time you eat before you retire, which can all affect your sleep patterns. Even taking a look at the mood you are in before going to bed or what is running through your mind may help you to discover exactly what is causing your insomnia.

When you understand the source of your sleep troubles you will be in a better position to treat your insomnia, even though it might be the result of a health issue.

Physical Causes

Is your bedroom an inviting place? Or is it cluttered and filled with things from work? If the answer to the second question is yes, then the cause of your insomnia could lie in your environment. Your bedroom should be a haven from the world.

If your bedroom is not in any way an inviting place, then there are things you need to do to make it so. Make it cozy and this will help to sort out your sleeplessness. It’s a good idea to invest in blinds or heavier curtains to make sure your room is dark. This usually helps to prevent insomnia.

Do you drink a lot of coffee throughout the day? If you have more than a couple cups, it’s bound to aggravate your sleeping problems. Indeed, overindulging in caffeine or alcohol is a leading cause of chronic insomnia.

How’s Your Health?

We have mentioned coffee above but the cause of your insomnia may be much more menacing than this. You could have a recently diagnosed medical condition which is keeping you awake at night.

The diagnosis as well as the knowledge of the disease could have you up all night worrying about it. Some of the medical conditions that are behind the questions of what causes insomnia are high blood pressure, heart disease and Parkinson’s.

If you think there’s a possibility that you might have any of these diseases then you should make an appointment with your physician to find out for sure, especially if you’ve made unsuccessful efforts to unwind before bed in calm and peaceful surroundings.

Insomnia is often disregarded as a temporary and trivial thing but it can be a mask for a more serious, undiagnosed situation.

by Rudy Watkins

One single method for stopping yourself from snoring will not work for every person in every situation. For some, the only real solution for snoring is surgery.

The type of surgery needed to stop snoring is different for each person. Deciding which one is right for you is done by considering your body and the root cause of your snoring.

An otolaryngologist, a doctor of the nose, ears, and throat, should be consulted to discuss surgeries. Remember that surgery to correct snoring is usually considered cosmetic by insurance companies and therefore the costs of the surgery tend to not be cared for by them.

LAUP

Uvulopalatoplasty, or LAUP, is probably the most widely applied surgery for snoring. During the procedure, the tissue hanging in the back of your mouth, known as the uvula, is cut away by a laser so that it has less contact with the throat while you sleep.

The surgery helps individuals whose snoring is related to airway blockage from the uvula.

Somnoplasty

Another type of surgery commonly used to help with snoring problems is radio frequency tissue ablation, or RFTA. This is done under the trade name “Somnoplasty” and was only recently approved by the FDA.

RFTA is another way of reducing the size of the uvula, minimizing its contact with the throat. With RFTA, multiple sessions may be necessary before you see results. Because it is so new, there is not a lot of data published on it yet.

Coblation-channeling is another modern development for snorers. In this surgery, radio waves are used to make airway tissues smaller in hopes of opening up obstruction. This surgery is extremely new to the medical community, so very little data is available on it.

Repose

Repose, or tongue suspension, is another surgery that stops the tongue from collapsing into the airway and blocking it.

During this procedure the doctor places a screw into the lower part of the jaw bone and stitches are placed beneath the tongue so that it remains in the right place while you sleep.

Nasal deviation surgery is helpful to people who have breathing obstructions due to a deviated septum or other nasal blockage by removing them.

An interesting side effect of this surgery is that it also helps to improve your breathing during the day. For that reason, it is often covered by medical insurance policies.

Since any and all of the surgeries described in this article are serious medical procedures, speaking with a qualified doctor before making a decision regarding treatment is essential. Communicate with a medical professional in order to find out how to treat your snoring in the best possible way.

In order to stop snoring, it is important to identify the source of the problem. Snoring is brought on by various factors.

by Rudy Watkins

In order to stop snoring, it is important to identify the source of the problem. Snoring is brought on by various factors.

There are 5 common causes for snoring…

Drinking Alcohol

To find out whether your snoring problem is alcohol induced, have someone investigate whether or not you snore on a night that you haven’t had anything to drink.

A depressant, alcohol causes the neck and throat muscles to relax. This, in turn, makes you snore. Muscle relaxation brought on by alcohol consumption is of a higher level then that caused by normal sleep and can also restrict your breathing airways.

If, after checking, you find that your snoring is a result of your alcohol intake, simply stop drinking. Not drinking alcohol within the four hours before you go to sleep is another viable option.

Sleeping on Your Back

A large number of people with snoring problems do not snore if they do not sleep on their back. Therefore, learning to sleep on your side can eliminate your snoring.

There are devices you can buy to help with this, but you can do it at home for free.

One way to teach yourself to sleep differently is by pinning a tennis ball inside a sock to the backside of your pajamas. This way, you will automatically move back onto your side when sleeping to avoid the discomfort caused by the tennis ball.

Are You Overweight?

Being overweight is another potential cause of snoring. Breathing can be restricted and snoring brought about by fatty tissues in both the throat and neck. The solution: lose some of that excess wait.

Do You Use Antihistamines or Sleeping Pills?

These products can have a similar effect to alcohol. They relax your throat muscles more than normal sleep would and this can lead to snoring problems.

Do You Suffer from Allergies?

Allergies can result in nasal congestion. This can make it difficult for your body to get the necessary oxygen.

The problem is, antihistamines can also contribute to snoring so the best solution is to just take a decongestant rather than an antihistamine.

The above mentioned causes of snoring are the five that appear most commonly and frequently. In order to be sure of just why you have a snoring problem, talk to a doctor or some other medical professional and get their opinion.

If you end up waking from sleep finding that you haven’t been able to breathe for a short period of time, you are most likely affected by sleep apnea. Sleep apnea occurs when you can’t take in air while sleeping because your throat stays open or your throat temporarily collapses making you become breathless.

Sleeping on Your Back

Most times sleep apnea happens while sleeping on your back although it can happen in any position. Sleep apnea is usually caused when the tongue or throat muscles relax beyond the usual range and by sleeping on your back, the fact that the muscles have relaxed so much lets the tongue slip up towards the back on your mouth and you are unable to breathe.

Thus, if it is found that sleeping on your back is the main sleep apnea cause, you need to simply change your sleeping position and thus again regain your ability to sleep soundly. Another possible sleep apnea cause is when your adenoids or tonsils become too large and to treat such a sleep apnea cause you may require undergoing surgery, though of course the decision is best left to your doctor.

If you are overweight and have too much body fat you may also be at risk for sleep apnea. Fat deposits can accumulate at the back of the throat and cause it to collapse or a blockage while you are sleeping.

For mild sleep apnea you can use a mouthpiece that will control your tongue and keep you breathing consistently for a better nights sleep.

Finally, you can also add the size of your skull and neck bones as a possible sleep apnea cause because often these may be shaped in a manner that forces your muscles to close over your throat when you are lying down and thus will spoil your sleep at night.

The best approach to treat this problem or for extreme sleep apnea is by using the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure treatment.

There are many serious medical concerns from sleep apnea but now a study had linked serious and fatal complications for patients with heart failure. People with sleep apnea experience decreased or interrupted breathing during which the brain is oxygen deprived and not able to send out the messages to the respiratory muscles to inhale and exhale. Breathing can stop for several seconds or as much as a minute. Since these episodes can happen frequently during the night, it causes a special worry for people who suffer from heart problems.

Serious Concerns

Heart failure patients need to be aware of extra complications from sleep apnea. Heart failure is simply defined as a disorder where the heart isn’t able to pump enough blood to supply the amount of oxygen needed by the body and essential nutrients. Oxygen is the most important thing here. In both sleep apnea and heart failure, there is a decreased supply of oxygen. If a person has both conditions, the lack of supply of oxygen is doubled and that can be dangerous.

This raises the risk of a patient with heart failure dying during a sleep apnea episode. Additionally, this lower level of oxygen throughout the body can cause serious damage to major organs as well as contribute to psychological problems that result from a lack of restful sleep.

What Can You Do?

You can be helped if you have both of these conditions. A mild diuretic and respiratory stimulant called acetazolamide is now being prescribed. When taken before bedtime, this drug may improve oxygen levels to help lessen sleep apnea problems. People participating in a study taking this prescription drug, were less tired and had better concentration during the daytime.

This medical study has been groundbreaking because previously, there wasn’t considered to be a solid concern between heart failure and sleep apnea. Now, doctors are aware of the doubling effect each of these conditions has on a patient, through their combined effect on oxygen levels. Patients who are being treated for heart failure should also consult with their doctors about the possibility of sleep apnea being present.

Although sleep apnea is very common, most of the time people are unaware they have this disorder. A proper diagnosis and treatment plan will provide both a restful night’s sleep as well as a safer one.

Sleep apnea is a serious sleeping disorder. During sleep apnea, individuals experience irregular breathing accompanied by unusual pause. Each cessation in breathing may last for 10 to 20 seconds and it may occur more than 30 times in an hour. Typically there are two types of sleep apnea ” one is obstructive sleep apnea and the other one is central sleep apnea.

Breathing is either reduced or stopped if you have sleep apnea. Simply the most common sign of sleep apnea is when breathing stops for at least 10 seconds. In this write up we will examine some of the other sleep apnea signs.

Declining Oxygen Levels

Since apnea is characterized as an absolute cessation of airflow or significant reduction, which results in at least a 4% decline in the oxygen saturation level within blood. This occurs as a direct consequence of decline in the transfer rate of oxygen through the blood at the time breathing ceases. This is one of the most significant signs of sleep apnea.

Sleep Disturbance

Sleep can be severely interrupted. You may even wake up fully. You may wake from a deep sleep and still stay in a lighter sleep. This is a common sign and is why sleep apnea measured while sleeping.

Headaches and Dry Throats

These are also common signs. When you have sleep apnea and wake in the morning you will probably have a dry throat. This can be very uncomfortable and become a hindrance in trying to breathe. A morning headache will also add to a person feeling tired after a nights sleep.

Drowsiness during the Day

People with sleep apnea have such a difficult time because of the sleeping patterns to reach a restful sleep. They can become tired during the day. Their evening sleep can also include loud snoring or snorting.

Lack of Oxygen

One of the most common signs of sleep apnea includes a sharp decline in the oxygen level, which poses a serious threat to cardiovascular system. Since the cardiovascular system has to work more efficiently and an effortful manner in order to supply the adequate amount of oxygen to all tissues, it leads to the development of high blood pressure, eventually increasing the risk for heart attack and stroke.
