There are number of different things, which may cause a person to snore when they are sleeping. But the problem is that if the problem is not dealt with correctly it could lead to them having other health issues to deal with as well. One such problem that can further exacerbate their condition is sleep apnea. But although snoring can be a problem for the sufferer, it is important to remember that it is also a problem for those who are close to them as well.
When a person snores, they make very loud harsh hoarse breathing sound as they inhale and exhale when they are sleeping. This noise is made because the air that they breathe in and out will cause the tissue in the upper part of their nose and throat to vibrate. The problem is that many people who snore do not realize that they are doing so as it is a completely involuntary action over which they have no control.
It is the palate, the uvula and the tonsils, which are the parts of the upper airway that will flap against each other and so cause the airway to become obstructed. There are many causes why a person will suffer from snoring and it could be also because of some of the following issues.
1. The muscles, which are found in the person’s throat and tongue, are not as strong as they should be. Because of this, the tongue is more likely to fall backwards into the throat and so obstructing it, which makes it more difficult for the person to breathe.
2. For some people their snoring is caused because there is an excess amount of tissue in the throat area and is often related to a person being overweight. This excess amount of tissue results in an obstruction forming in a person’s airway and prevents the easy movement of air through it as they breathe.
3. For some people their snoring could be caused because either or both of the palate and uvula are too soft. When these are too soft then again they will help to obstruct the airway and so restrict the movement of air through it as a person breathes.
4. The final cause of why a person is snoring is that their nasal airways have become obstructed. Again, it may be too much tissue in this part of their body or it can be caused because there is a build up of mucus in their nasal passages.
Luckily, there are plenty of remedies and devices that people who suffer from snoring can now use to help alleviate or cure the problem. Some people find nasal strips or stop snoring sprays the most effective way of treating this condition. However, for others whose snoring has become very severe then the only way of treating the problem is by undergoing surgery such as Somnoplasty.
