I have found a simple device that scientists have developed in order to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to harmony in the bedroom. This is a “snoring mouthpiece”. In other words, there is an oral appliance that people can wear to bed in an effort to stop snoring. Without the disruptive effects of snoring, better sleep is achieved for the snorer and the bed-mate. This is monumental because sleep is so important to our health.
We cannot control our health and our lives without quality sleep. We feel better about ourselves and about the world around us. We are rested, at peace and full of energy.
There are some 80 types of sleep disorders that prevent good sleep. One of the major causes of poor sleep is snoring, even though most snorers will tell you that “they sleep great”. On the other hand they sheepishly admit it bothers their bedmate. The snorer thinks that their partner is the person who is most affected by their snoring. The sad thing is they don’t recognize the harmful effects of snoring on the snorer. This is totally and patently false. Snorers do not get good quality sleep and we’ll explain why a snoring mouthpiece can change all of that a little further into this article.
Please understand, again, the importance of sleep and the danger of not sleeping well. It does not matter whether a person snores, has sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, or just doesn’t go to bed in a timely fashion poor sleep is poor sleep and it has very negative consequences.
Let’s discuss this. The most common complaint from people who snore is that they suffer from daytime fatigue. When they are sedentary, these people who are sleep deprived have trouble staying awake, i.e., sitting at their desk, reading in an easy chair, driving. This can be particularly lethal if they are driving. Falling asleep at the wheel is hugely dangerous. Here’s how pervasive this problem is: almost 40% of American adults complain that their daytime fatigue interferes with their daily activities. And almost every one of these poor folks will also tell you that they have no energy, period. They literally feel sick. Bearing this in mind, a snoring mouthpiece makes common sense, does it not?
Ever wonder where the saying grumpy old men (and women)? You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s all about sleep. As we get older, we don’t sleep quite as well. A snoring mouthpiece might even have the effect of improving our moods.
How do we end up snoring?
Snoring is a noise produced when the airway (passage for air at the back of the throat) collapses and gets smaller as we fall asleep. This is because soft tissues like the soft palate and uvula surrounding this airway relax when we fall asleep. This reduces the size of the opening through which air passes on its way to the lungs. . You still have to breathe the same volume of air when you sleep, but now it passes through a smaller opening. So the pressurized breath stream passes over the relaxed tissues of the throat (most notably, the soft palate and uvula) and sets these floppy tissues into vibration. Thus we see the nightly birth of snoring. The idea behind a snoring mouthpiece is that it adjusts the position of soft tissues in the throat and prevents them from totally collapsing. The snoring mouthpiece pulls the lower jaw forward and opens up the airway making it less likely to collapse. The snoring mouthpiece achieves the same result.
